Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaru 2009 – Season v was organised by nataka academy, Rotary Club of Madras mount and Kalalaya USA. Actor Ilayathalapathi Vijay’s mother Shoba Chandrasekar performed on 25 December 2009.
About Shoba Chandrasekar :
Coming from a musical background, it was no surprise that actor Ilayathalapathi Vijay’s mother Shoba Chandrasekar had a great liking for music since childhood. Shoba Chandrasekar started her tutelage in classical music at the age of 10 from Shri Meenakshi sundaram – a disciple of the great Shri G.N. Balasubramaniam. Later Shoba Chandrasekar joined the Tamil Nadu Government Music College and pursued her learning from the great tutors in the college like Vidwan Shri T.M. Thiagarajan.
Shoba Chandrasekar also had the opportunity to learn Veena from Smt. Kalpagam Swaminathan at the music college. Shobha – attracted by the majestic style of Shri Maharajapuram Santhanam. For the past 5 years she has been learning vocal carnatic music from Smt. Brinda Thiagarajan – daughter of Shri Maharajapuram Santhanam.
