The trend setter of Tamil cinema Vijay, who was born as Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar to Director S. A. Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar on June 22, 1974 is celebrating his birthday.

He is commonly referred as Ilaya Thalapathy (which means “Young General”) by his fans. Nowadays he has more or equal fan base compared to superstar Rajinikanth in tamil nadu. Vijay is the star ambassador for IPL Chennai Super Kings cricket team.

Nandita Das to be honoured with French award “Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres”

Nandita Das who gained popularity in the 1990s by starring in Deepa Mehta films like Fire (1996) and Earth (1998) will be bestowed the prestigious French award Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres (Order of Arts and Literature) at Paris for her contribution to cinema.Although globally recognized for her performances on screen as a critically acclaimed Indian actress, Nandita Das remains deeply involved with her activism and social work. She holds a Masters degree in Social Work and is involved with various Civil Society organizations and movements.

Nandita is the second Bollywood personality after Shah Rukh Khan who has been conferred with this award this year.

Kuruvi ? Kerala rights goes for Rs 1.50 crore

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Kuruvi is scheduled to release in May.

Now according to media reports Malayalam cinema’s leading hair dresser Mahi had took the Kerala theatrical rights for a Rs 1.50 crore on royalty basis (print cost and publicity will have to be met by the distributor).

Kuruvi is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin. Dharani of Ghilli fame will be directing this action adventure movie. The film stars Vijay and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles.

“Simran Thirai” – Simran is back

Simran is back, this time on the small screen with Simran Thirai. Simran Thirai is not a serial but a Tele-film with different stories that will be aired from March 3 on Jaya TV, Mon-Fri 8.30 pm.

The series will have a mini serial per month with one story running for a month. The stories are selected from many writers and will be directed by different directors. Simran will handle the protagonist?s role in each story. Every story will have by a different director and technicians to give a distinct cinematic flavour to the programme.

Simran Thirai is produced by Pyramid Saimira. The first two episodes of Simran Thirai will be directed by actress Sri Priya (Vannathupoochi) and director Ahathiyan. Vairamuthu has done the title song lyrics.
