Lakme Fashion Week : Summer-Resort

Lakmé Fashion Week goes Summer-Resort this March 2010

India’s most prestigious fashion and trade event, Lakmé Fashion Week, scheduled from March 5 March 9, 2010, will now be called Summer / Resort 2010. This name change is in response to the overwhelming response from designers and solidifies LFW’s commitment to the platform. LFW introduced the concept of a formal Resort platform for Indian designers. This commitment to Resort will provide increased exposure for Indian designers to buyers, media and the fashion industry both in India and abroad.

‘Resort Wear’ is defined as a year round fashion wear, which is easy to wear and caters to warmer climates globally. Contrary to the belief that Resort Wear is beachwear, the style encompasses a variety of apparels from kaftaans to evening dresses for women and comfortable, lightweight shirts, trousers and jackets, for men. Unique in its design, it is generally made from linens, cotton, silk, denim and microfibers. Resort Wear goes beyond the notion of attire for vacationing in St. Tropez, Ibiza and Cannes. It is anchored with designs for the urban fashion set who live and work in Dubai, Mumbai, New York, Paris and Hong Kong.

Globally, designers and design houses such as Oscar de la Renta, John Galliano, Michael Kors, Matthew Willliamson, Anna Sui and many others have introduced and continue to focus on Resort Wear in their collections. Resort has quickly become a recognizable and significant international business. Indian designers have long been designing Resort Wear without the formal moniker. Examples of Indian designers who have showcased Resort lines in LFW in the recent past are Anamika Khanna, Anupama Dayal, Aneeth Arora, Nandita Mahtani and Wendell Rodricks.
