Aamir Khan was in Chennai to accept the Gollapudi Srinivas National Award for Taare Zameen Par. This award is is given to a debut director every year.
Replying to a media reporters query that Indian cinema today has deviated from portraying everyday reality, Aamir Khan said
Cinema is to entertain, not educate. For that, go to a college. The audience doesn’t want to see reality all the time. I like larger-than-life cinema. I am a Rajinikanth fan myself.
Taare Zameen Par is being dubbed in Tamil (Vaal Natchathiram) and Telugu (Neela Meda Taaralu). Actor Suriya is dubbing for Aamir in the Tamil version. Film is schedulde to release on September 12.
